This chapter discusses the lessons that can be learned from the cases of direct social work with the children who were introduced in the previous chapters. These include the importance of a good understanding of attachment theory and its application to the work with children and the relevance of an understanding of the post-traumatic stress reaction and the likelihood of this being observed in the behaviour of an abused child.
