This chapter focuses on the employment experiences of young people. The difficulties young people encounter when attempting to first enter the labour market cause mismatch between training and employment into high relief. These difficulties in turn emphasise a series of complicating phenomena that can only partially be attributed to the structure of the labour market, and which are instead strongly associated, in terms of both explanations and responsibility, with the education and training systems. The chapter provides an overall sketch of recent employment and education policies in Italy, elaborating on the reforms that seem to have had the most impact on the Italian context during the past decade.
