This chapter examines the impact of early retirement on the well-being of wage earners in Norway, Finland, and Denmark. The results indicate that social, political, and economic problems are connected to one another, but do not totally overlap. Overall the accumulation of welfare problems is not very common in the Nordic countries. The connections between the different dimensions of dis-welfare are stronger among the disability pensioners and the early retirees; that is, among those outside the labour force rather than among older people who are employed. However, the risk of having cumulative welfare problems is strongly related to health problems, not to labour-market marginalisation in the form of early retirement.
