This chapter describes developments in the field of violence against women in Norway during the past 20 years. Unlike the situation in Finland, a feminist movement has for a long time been quite vocal in the Norwegian public debate on violence against women. However, despite a ‘mainstreaming’ of feminist perspectives into social policy, change in practice has been slow. The chapter discusses the measures provided for women exposed to violence in Norway, new measures following the government's 2000 plan of action, and challenges in the field of battered women.
