This chapter studies the present Norwegian childcare regime, while focusing on the regulations of the right of parents to work versus care during the early stages of parenthood. It argues that a multi-causal, contextual approach is needed in the study of parenthood policies. Approaching childcare policies as a ‘regime’ can also add to the insights about policy dynamics and uncovering contradictions that are naturally a part of the Norwegian childcare regime are presented in this chapter as well.
