This chapter considers the meanings currently attached to risk in the area of sexual health and young people. It begins by introducing the policy context for the current debate on young people and sexual behaviour, placing this within a comparative European framework. The chapter then draws upon two recent empirical-research projects on ‘young women, sex, and choices’. These projects, commissioned by local teenage-pregnancy coordinators, sought to gain insights into the sexual decision-making processes of young mothers in relation to their pregnancies, and to assess their views on sexual behaviour and morality.
