This chapter provides an account of the contrasting experiences of efforts to fight discrimination that is linked to the sexual orientation of people in Brighton & Hove and Hastings. Aside from focusing on sexual orientation and the labour market, it also focuses on the relative invisibility within discourses of discrimination and equal rights. It is argued that homophobia has become a contributing factor to the general under-resourcing of research into issues of sexuality. As such, sexual orientation issues need to be more prominent within policies to promote labour market equality.
