This chapter discusses some of the principal issues that have emerged through studying high subjective well-being directly, and considers the implications for the direction of future well-being research. It addresses theoretical and methodological aspects of constructing a measure of well-being, suggesting that improvements at the national level will only be possible where subjective well-being is supported by social justice and not driven by economic growth.
