This has been essentially a cultural gerontological study of an age-homogeneous community in a non-Western society. Through it, the authors sought, first, to refine Western ideas about the social integration of the aged and, second, to look into the future of retirement communities in Japan. Other scholars and service workers will undoubtedly want to take other lessons from this study of Fuji-no-Sato, but this chapter summarizes the contributions of the study to the authors's own guiding questions.

Keywords: Fuji-no-Sato; retirement communities; cultural gerontology; social integration; aged; Japan
