This chapter examines the origin of Sthenurinae, and evaluates the sthenurine credentials of Troposodon and Lagostrophus. The result of character reassessment suggests that the overlap of the postmetacrita and postmetaconulecrista is not a valid synapomorphy linking Troposodon and Lagostrophus with the sthenurines. The analysis also indicates that all evidence strongly suggests that sthenurines and macropodines arose from bulungamayines.
