This chapter focuses on the National Liberation Front's (NLF) battle against U.S. forces in Vietnam. Despite heavy losses in the Tet offensive, the NLF was able to capitalize on new political opportunities and organized the Alliance of National, Democratic and Peace Forces (ANDF), which called for a sovereign state of South Vietnam and espoused a policy of reconciliation with the support of the Government of Vietnam. The chapter suggests that Americans and Vietnamese of all political persuasions, all generations, and all walks of life must work to expand the sense of “we” and to diminish the sense of “they.”
