This chapter addresses chronic pain and uses the illness experiences of several chronic pain patients from Harvard in order to illustrate some aspects of chronic pain. It outlines some exemplary narratives that help demonstrate how pain emerges in the micropolitics of social relations which have come under larger and menacing societal pressures as a resistance to interpersonal experience. The chapter also compares the experiences of these patients with those of chronic pain patients from China.
