This chapter describes the commissioners of exhibitions in Great Britain and the role of exhibitions in the production of imperial knowledge. It explains that cultural experts and the events themselves created, institutionalized, and diffused imperial knowledge in the forms of material culture and ideas in England, India, and Australia. In doing this at popular expositions, the commissioners were able to legitimate the ideas and practices of empire and their own status at home and abroad.
