This chapter sums up this arduous enterprise's gains for the understanding of ethnography. Did the study bring home what was promised at the beginning of this journey through travelogues of the exploration? The chapter wraps up the story and its protagonists; myth and reality; and control and ecstasy, hoping to stir up the ways many think about anthropology, and ends with two conclusions readers should not draw. One regards the methodological implications of what we found about ecstasis, the other the larger historical and political significance of the picture painted of the exploration of central Africa.
