This introductory chapter explains the theme of this volume, which is about the interpretation of Plato's dialogue Parmenides. Of all Plato's dialogues, the Parmenides is notoriously the most difficult to interpret and scholars of all periods have violently disagreed about its very aims and subject matter. It discusses problems of some methods of interpretation and the issues of elenchus, aporia, and euporia.
