This chapter focuses on the history of the military collections of Ottoman museums. It suggests that despite the closure of the military collections at the Basilica of Hagia Irene under Sultan Abdülhamid II, the sovereign retained an interest in the promotion of Ottoman identity through a military museum. The chapter describes Abdülhamid's creation of a model museum on the grounds of the Yildiz Palace and explains that this model led to the formulation of an increasingly glorious military museum even as the empire faltered.
