This concluding chapter sums up the key findings of this study on police torturers and murderers in Brazil. The results indicate that the Brazilian atrocity is connected to the social-psychological literatures about authority and obedience. The findings also suggest that this connection is in turn linked to questions about how relatively ordinary men in a variety of historical and social contexts have become perpetrators of unspeakable horrors in their roles as violence workers.
