This chapter draws attention to the author's journey from gaining knowledge to preaching gamelan for more than four decades. It highlights how the author, through the years, gained immense knowledge about Javenese culture, music, and ensemble, and so takes the opportunity to present these experiences. The chapter later presents an idealized instructional model for teaching Javanese gamelan in an institutional context that would enhance the educational outcomes for gamelan students. Furthermore, it outlines various goals set for the students who enroll in gamelan ensemble who are not at all familiar with the Javanese gamelan repertoire, and who have not had any previous encounter with the Javanese musical system. Lastly it discusses various trails of transmission and problems that were faced when improvising better teaching models.
