Strata from the Velvet Room in Porcupine Cave contain an abundant and diverse vertebrate fossil record. This chapter attempts to improve the confidence of age assignments of the Velvet Room strata through paleomagnetic sampling and analysis. It assesses whether polarity reversals occur within the section, and, if so, how they correlate to the Global Magnetic Polarity Time Scale and to the occurrence of taxa within the fossiliferous strata.

Keywords: Velvet Room; Porcupine Cave; vertebrate fossil; paleomagnetic sampling; polarity reversals; Global Magnetic Polarity
