This chapter studies the printer's type dating from 1750 to the 1830s that was used in the Maryland Gazette, and considers the type and the printed Maryland Gazette as technologies of the ideology of individualism. It also shows how individuals were shaped and how they were meant to reproduce themselves through training and become productive individuals, furthermore considering the question of whether people used and believed what they read and were taught.
