This chapter examines the influence of William Byrd on Norfolk gentleman and amateur musician Edward Paston. It explains that most of Paston's manuscripts contain some pieces by Byrd, and that some of them are devoted almost entirely to Byrd's works. In addition, Paston possessed many pieces which were not published during Byrd's lifetime, and there is even evidence to suggest that he knew the great composer personally.
