This chapter demonstrates that nunhood and “prostitution” came to be negatively marked as ambiguous gender statuses, focusing on sexuality as a way to further investigate reform-era national incorporation in the Labrang region. It also continues the analysis of the micropolitics of sex and contextualization within larger political-economic participation frameworks.
