This chapter argues that when taken as a whole, a natural history approach to security can reconcile the tension between strong evolutionary control and evolutionary independence of societal actions. It briefly discusses the justification for these two viewpoints and demonstrates how they fit into four operational concepts of natural security: organization, behavior, environmental awareness, and timing. The chapter suggests that a natural history of security allows us, or forces us, to reconcile the tension between our evolutionary roots and our modern detachment by taking a holistic view.
