This chapter takes a look at the Chumash villages and the organization of their households. It examines life within a typical Chumash household along the mainland coast during the 1700s, and provides ethnographic and ethnohistoric descriptions of the village structures and organization. The chapter then discusses the archaeological evidence on Late period Chumash settlements and structures placed along the mainland Santa Barbara Channel coast. The final part of the chapter focuses on the evidence for consumption and production at the household and village levels.
