For 40 years and beyond, war was Vietnam's dilemma. No other country has suffered as many war fatalities since World War II. The number of casualties in the Vietnam War in the year 1959–1975 remain contested. It is often exaggerated, but all agree that it was appallingly high. After the end of the Vietnam War and the unification of North and South Vietnam, only three years elapsed before Vietnam went to war again, this time against the Khmer Rouge. This book was written as a political case study of how and why a war began.
