According to this chapter, this book has amended the history of the origin of the First Indochina War on two main points: The signing of the Franco-Vietnamese agreement of March 6, 1946 which recognized Vietnam as a “free state,” where through this, it did not result from any provisional pragmatic, liberal, or moderate ascendancy among French colonial decision makers. The outbreak of war on December 19 was not planned and well coordinated but Vietnamese acted with aggression, with their simultaneous attacks on all French garrisons in the north. As of 1946, China, Great Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union wanted France to show restrain and cooperate with Vietnam.
