This book is dedicated to the proposition that intelligent design (ID) should be a serious concern to everyone interested in science. Because essays in this volume take Earth science as their launching point, this book differs from others that criticize creationism and ID. The book is divided into three sections, the first of which examines geologic and paleontological claims made by creationists of all types, including ID creationists. In the second section, geoscientists tackle education, politics, and philosophy. The book concludes with essays on geology and religion. Reflecting on evolution with special attention to geological science, the essays show that ID creationism is part of a larger movement that will adversely alter the nature of science by removing materialism and legitimizing supernaturalism as science.
