C.K. Yang or Yang Chuanguang is Taiwan's first postwar Olympic athlete. He won a silver medal in the decathlon in the 1960 Olympics at Rome. The historical event showcases how the Taiwanese baseball history has made much of the fact that Chen Gengyuan coached a young C.K. Yang at the Taidong Agricultural School in the late 1940s. Whether or not this actually speaks to an organic Kano or Aborigine essence at the soul of Taiwanese sport, it does remind people of how Taiwan's modern rulers have viewed the Aborigines as an inherently physical foil to Japanese or Chinese “civilization.”
