This book was envisaged as an opportunity to focus on a number of topics associated with reproductive biology among marine fishes. The contributions aim to generate new testable models for questions related to the evolution of reproductive and sexual biology in marine fishes. As a topic, the biology of vertebrate reproduction encompasses a wide variety of subdisciplines ranging from the study of molecules, cells, tissues, and organ systems to that of individuals, populations, metapopulations, and species. Sexuality, instead of being fixed, is labile, and sexual patterns are characterized by functional hermaphroditism. The book also highlights aspects of the reproductive biology and sexuality found among some of the smallest and least conspicuous of marine fish taxa, the blennioids and gobiids. A recurring theme is the present state of the world's marine environments, and how marine fishes will fare with possible changes to the ocean environments of tomorrow.
