This chapter provides an account of Clark Terry's life as a child. It describes his experiences at school, in the neighborhood, with friends, and most importantly, at his home. It also looks into the emotional journey of Clark Terry, when his father told him to leave his house. Clark Terry was “kicked out” of his home at the young age of twelve. He then began his second phase of life with his trumpet, which he had possessed without his father's knowledge, at her sister's apartment across the town. Even though this episode marked an emotional breakdown in the life of Clark Terry, it was also a breakthrough in shaping his career as a trumpet player, and then, a jazz educationist.
