It was in 1974 that Clark Terry got the news of Duke Ellington's death. It was very sad news for him and he knew he would miss Duke and his music. In 1976, Clark bought a new house for his family. Clark describes his strained relationship with his son, Hiawatha. And it was in 1978 that he got to know about his wife's cancer. In order to cover the treatment costs, Clark continued working and traveling for gigs and stayed busy getting the youth band off the ground. The youth club went all over America and Europe and was happy. While Clark continued making music, his wife passed away. He describes his wife's funeral like one big black cloud, and one of the hardest things ever happened to him.
