This chapter discusses the possibility for a new interpretation of the linguistic ideas of Ferdinand de Saussure, highlighting the discovery of a cache of notes in Suassure's own handwriting that was published in 2002 with the title Ecrits de linguistique générale, edited by Simon Bouquet and Rudolf Engler. The notes covered a wide range of topics including semiology, analogy and the origin of language. The chapter attempts to provide an interpretation of some of Saussure's handwritten notes.
