This chapter evaluates the extent to which the five aims of this book have been successfully addressed, and presents their theoretical outcomes. Where this study of music in young people's everyday lives attempts to contribute to the knowledge and understanding of its subject area is in the rejection of dominant structuralist and postmodernist theoretical frameworks in favour of the adoption of a less frequently undertaken interactionist approach. This approach will conceptualise youth music consumers as diffused audiences and performers rather than homogeneous participants of an exclusive, collective subcultural or club-cultural world.
