This chapter discusses Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari's concepts of the rhizome, smooth space and the war machine, and evaluates how these concepts can be used in dealing with the impact of so-called new media today. It addresses the question of resistance against the new mechanisms of control, arguing that digital media offer creative and unprecedented possibilities and contending that Deleuze and Guattari's work is useful in exploring new technology because they made it very clear that much depends on how technologies are made use of.
