This chapter obituarises multiculturalism, as both a theory and a political practice. It argues that the conflation between state and philosophical multiculturalism is misguided and has condemned the latter without sufficient attention to its nuance. Rounding out the appraisal of the progressive challenge to majoritarianism, the chapter states that the task for the Left is not to repudiate multiculturalism altogether, but to go beyond it and dismantle constructed hierarchies between inheritance and experience.
