This chapter explores and investigates the cultural context in Spain, first during the years before Gayangos's History of the Mohammedan Dynasties (1840 to 83) and then at the time of his son-in-law Riaño's continuation of his Hispanic orientalist enterprise in the catalogue of the South Kensington Museum (1872). The aim of this chapter is to explore the suppositions about Hispanic orientalism and to understand the contribution of works by Gayangos and Riaños to established cultural dialogues.
