This chapter focuses on Pascual de Gayangos as a scholarly traveller. The purpose of this chapter is to examine and analyse Gayangos's fruitful relationship with the world of travelling from different perspectives. First, the chapter considers his interest in historical travel literature which led him to study and edit several historical travel narratives. The chapter then considers Gayangos's identity as a travelling researcher and collector by discussing his travel plans and the trips he made. Analysing Gayangos's identity as a traveller may result in a better understanding of the development of his historical research and the formation of his private collection of books, objects and manuscripts as well as his contribution to the recovery of Spain's national and archival heritage.
