This chapter examines a new aspect of writing communities, where the declarations of exclusivity were also a mechanism to negotiate political and personal obligations. It takes a closer look at the exchange of verse epistles – specifically those of Donne – and studies the social mode of authorship, or how discourses of friendship were confirmed in reproduction and exchange processes.
