This chapter discusses the history and theory of Islam. It does not concern itself with the characteristics of traditional belief, rather it focuses on the stages through which humankind passed in its search for the meaning of existence, explaining the origin and destiny of human life and creating a belief system as a bulwark against the apparent disorder of creation. In this chapter, the focus is on how religion underwent linear evolution from polytheism to monotheism; on how prophecy changed; and on how new horizons were created as religions underwent development.
