This chapter tries to understand the philosophical and ‘cultural’ events that characterise Derrida. It begins with a review of Derridean biography, where it studies the essential relationship between philosophy and death, specifically the philosophical life and death. It considers some of Derrida's previous lessons on death and mourning, where he emphasises the process of getting over it. The chapter also tries to determine what features compose a real event and looks at the cultural-historical reactions to Derrida's event.
