This chapter is concerned with life and the kind of ‘community’ proposed by Derrida. It studies the form of ‘life’ in deconstruction and how the inherited concept of ‘life’ led to an after-life in deconstruction. The discussion also presents the question of life at the centre of the argumentative structure of La voix et le phénomène. The chapter also considers the ‘non-synonymic substitutions’ and teleological structures.
