This chapter shows the continuing relevance of Macpherson's project. Figuratively, this involves doing a ‘Macpherson’ on Macpherson. That is to say, his thought is to be ‘retrieved’ in order to focus a critical spotlight on the various current schools of thought which criticized him. The chapter aims to make good the claim that his thought still has resonance by pointing to some inadequacies of modern approaches to political thought from a Macpherson standpoint. His relevance for Marxism, feminism and for the study of politics is briefly explored. His significance for contemporary political philosophy is then highlighted.
