The ride home from Rikers Island was a blur. Allen Jones was sucking in everything around him, just like someone needing air. On top of all that, the feeling of just having experienced a miracle had his head spinning. After the judge announced his reprieve in the courtroom, his mother was overcome by tears of joy. Leaving that courtroom and driving away from The Rock, he felt as if the life that had been taken away from him had been returned and that anything was possible. It did not take him long to realize that he had to leave New York City. Jones knew that basketball was going to be his ticket out, but first he needed to find a mentor to help him meet the right people and polish his game. Soon afterward he met Elmer Singletary, a brother from around the block whose reputation was solid.
