Boarding the plane at La Guardia Airport to head off to Montreat Anderson Junior College was an exciting experience for Allen Jones. It was the first time he had ever flown, and he knew it would not be his last. In the airport, he saw so many different kinds of people, all moving fast, full of purpose, and preparing to go some place. It was hard for him to imagine people from the South Bronx traveling like this, and, in fact, very few people he saw in the airport looked as though they came from a place like the Lester Patterson Houses. He was glad to be leaving New York, but his mind was still on the streets. Jones was much more concerned about the kind of nightlife they had in Montreat, than the classes he would be taking. To tell the truth, he really did not know much about the school: he just wanted to play basketball.
