This chapter examines the nature of the dark wisdom of the Gift of the Holy Spirit. It holds that the gift of wisdom is not the prerogative of contemplatives but is possessed by all who are in charity. The chapter concludes that the mysticism of the author of The Cloud is ordinary; that it is no more than a normal development of the Christian life; that is a path to perfection for those who believe in a stronger, deeper love, and are more endowed with a rich outpouring of the gift of wisdom.
