Throughout his work, the author insists that what he is teaching is a path to union with God. He holds that knowledge and feeling of self are obstacles to a perfect union with God, and must be destroyed. He also stresses the total forgetfulness of self, the freedom of God to do as He will, and the dominant element of love. The forgetting of all things and the empting of the mind of all concepts in order to meet God demands a progressive entry into world of no change, no time, and no body. The author uses various terminologies in mysticism to describe the most complete union of man with God.
