Theater and theory, as has been established in one of the previous chapters, come from the same Greek word thea which means assigning a place where one chooses to observe or see. Kierkegaard, author of the essay entitled Repetition, proposes that theater should be related not just to theory but also to the notion of movement or flow of events. Repetition is concerned with life more than it is with knowledge and with the future more than with the past. In this chapter, emphasis is given to the notions of repetition and recollection and to how these notions depict the same movement but in different directions: recollection is repeating backward and repetition is recollecting forward.
