This chapter presents Islamic teachings about the Holy. When God says that He is hidden and loves to be known, and that this is why He creates, He does not say that He changes. He is One and the Same, First and Last, Outer and Inner. Hence He is always hidden, but His love to be known, and thus to be understood, never ceases. When we see creation, differentiation makes knowledge possible. But the signified is always greater than the knower: this is why it is the Loved. Neither the knower nor the lover may attain the Known and Loved, for the latter is the Holy. This is why all joy and satisfaction is tinged with sadness.
