This chapter examines the role of science in contemporary according to the writings and observations of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. It states that scientific thought entered China through Jesuit missionary activities during the 17th and 18th centuries. During this time, the conflict between scientific positivism and metaphysical philosophy in Europe was at its peak. The popularity of the pursuit of scientific knowledge in China has been traumatizing for others because science made traditional Chinese thinking useless. Thus, the conflict between science and metaphysics in Europe was repeated, and even became more radicalized in 20th century China.
