This introductory chapter discusses the purpose of this book, which is to present the papers delivered at the Third International Colloquium of Jesuits in Jewish–Christian dialogue held in Zug, Switzerland from July 10 to 23, 2005. The theme of the colloquium was “The Importance of Modern Jewish Thought for Jewish-Christian Dialogue”. This book focuses on the writings of modern Jewish thinkers in the Diaspora and the significance of their insights for Jewish–Christian relations.
